NPR uses the loaded term "Conservative" in trying to mask that all those involved were partisan Democrats:
President Johnson
Senator Philip Hart (D-Mich.)
Rep. Emanuel Celler (D-N.Y.)
Sen. Sam Ervin (D-N.C.)
Rep. Michael Feighan (D-Ohio)
- readarticle 6y agoA “mask” that only applies if one is unable to read past a headline. Fifty years ago, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed a new immigration law... The original version of the bill, introduced in the Senate by Philip Hart (D-Mich.) and in the House by Emanuel Celler (D-N.Y.)... Sen. Sam Ervin (D-N.C.) said he objected to the idea of giving people from Ethiopia the same right to immigrate... Nevermind the utter uselessness of applying a “conservative” label to parties that were still yet to fully consolidate along those lines in the wake of the Civil Rights Act, signed the year before these events.
- Zanni 6y agoYeah, that headline is bizarre. In what sense is Feighan a conservative?
