I have some spare time and I'd love to work on Debian, but I got offered $500 to work on another open source project. The person who made me the offer was very apologetic - as she said, it's not even my day rate - but as I said, I'd probably do it for nothing, no one's making a penny out of the software, it's really useful, and $500 isn't nothing. I think they could get plenty of people to work on Debian for 10 hours a week for $10k a year, as a hobby.
