Although, I work with Ruby for most of the time, Elixir is my "go to" language for all new projects.
I like it because of the speed and low resource consumption. If you don't have an experience with it then you would probably be better choosing known technology.
From my perspective, technology doesn't matter that much as we, engineers, would like it to be. What really matters is your ability to deliver product and your ability to market it.
As my experience shows you can even write your project with Lisp and if you're lucky enough ebay will buy it. Slack is written on php, so what? Should we all use php then?
