I think it's debatable that OOP is "easier to understand and leads to more maintainable code". It depends on size of project and experience of developers. There are still certainly benefits to using FP in JavaScript from a design, readability, maintainability sense, even if you are not concerned with concurrent code with no locks. A good FP design can be easier to reason about than an OOP graph of objects.
