I really don't want a word processor, per se, so much as I want really robust (realtime) text wrapping/unwrapping as I edit paragraphs. I've tried to get Vim and Emacs to do reflows but both were very flakey compared to something like WordPerfect for DOS.
- Bud 6y agoBBEdit might be just right for you.
- Crontab 6y agoMy apologies, I was specifically referring to text-based/console-based applications. All the GUI text editors seem to wrap and unwrap just fine.
- jaclaz 6y agoNot exactly a word processor but it seems to me like you could try (if you can find it) the TSE or QEdit: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_SemWare_Editor https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_SemWare_Editor what Qedit (often renamed simply to Q.exe) was capable of doing in the (good) old times was incredible.
- genuinebyte 6y agoI think I know what you mean. I try to wrap at 80 col. and I often need to go back and edit a paragraph, which breaks all my wrapping.
- lbruder 6y agoHave you tried soft line wrapping in GNU nano (M-S)? As long as you're running nano in an 80 column wide window, that should work fine.
