In my experience they actually don't, and they aren't paid during the same period either. They are forced to take medical leave, and receive significantly reduced pay.

- klipt 6y agoDepends on the state and employer, in California at a big tech firm you generally receive full pay for FMLA leave (since the employer will top up the reduced amount provided by the state). But then it's the same with parental leave, which also depends on the state and employer.

- majormajor 6y agoThat's not a "really good deal." Do 20% of your normal expenses magically go away? And if you have to spend any extra money of your own for care or related things (maybe none of your old clothes fit anymore!) it gets worse. Plus, you know, there's the HORRIBLY ILL part of it.
- pojzon 6y agoMy expenses dont go away, but I dont have to work in the same time either. Time is money, so for 8h/day I get 80% of pay and still have those 8h..
- ithinkso 6y agoAnd only 30days/yr of this is from the employer's pocket, the rest is from the state which is also a good deal the other way around.
