Replacing (laptop) screens with glasses / virtual desktops would be a big ergonomic win and good start, it could improve existing workflows (enable desktop productivity on mobile). AR/VR mainstream success is difficult because it doesn't really have mainstream predecessors in the real world like the iPhone had (phones, mp3 players, cameras) that made smartphones a nobrainer purchase. It's predecessors are actually laptops, tablets and computer monitors.
