Using shell as a REPL for C. I learned C on Windows, and before I learned any dynamic languages. And before I had ever written a unit test. I knew all the rules, but I was not good at making a reasonably sized, correct program in a reasonable amount of time. --- But then I developed a good workflow for writing Python, shell, etc., and then went back to writing C, and it helped immensely. C is a dynamic language in many respects anyway!
