If you hit space at after invoking the crosshairs then you can take full window screenshots. This mode is nice for marketing material as it also captures the drop shadow and rounded corners rendered properly as a transparent png.
- hibbelig 6y agoAfter cmd-shift-4 and space, a simple copies the window with its shadow. Some modified allows to copy just the window. But I forgot which modifier.
- jasomill 6y agoHold down Option while clicking the window to exclude the drop shadow from the screenshot. As a vastly more general rule, hold down Option while clicking anything on a Mac to get the alternate/advanced form of the click action (e.g., try Option-clicking the various status icons on the right end of the menu bar).
- lostgame 6y ago>> Hold down Option while clicking the window to exclude the drop shadow from the screenshot. You just taught an exclusively-MacOS user of 15+ years a new trick! Thank you! :) I often marvel at how fantastic this OS truly is.
- phodo 6y agoIs there a way to make it NOT make that camera shutter sound when you do the screenshot ?
- hibbelig 6y agoIn System Preferences, under Sound, select the tab Sound Effects. There is a checkbox to play user interface sound effects.
- saagarjha 6y agoAnd hold ⌘ while doing that to select a "sub-window" such as an alert. Do note that doing this while in Dark mode will capture the blended color from your desktop picture, so it's not quite optimal for sticking on top of a macOS desktop template, but it's nice for making quick mockups.
- dbalatero 6y agoAlso if you hold `ctrl` down as well, the screenshot goes directly to your pasteboard for quick pasting and won't save a junk file on your desktop.
- spurgu 6y agoI've actually reversed these mappings since I rarely need to save a file (pretty much only if I want to annotate the screenshot). And Alfred's clipboard history is an awesome companion.
