why is dev tools dead?
- syshum 6y agoThey laid off all of the developers in the DevTools Team, in the Servo Team, and in the MDN teams in the last round of mass layoffs.
- Vinnl 6y agoNot all of the developers: https://twitter.com/FirefoxDevTools/status/1293678739117576193 https://twitter.com/FirefoxDevTools/status/12936787391175761...
- dtparr 6y agoWell, from the same developer a few days later: https://twitter.com/FirefoxDevTools/status/1301204717322645504 https://twitter.com/FirefoxDevTools/status/13012047173226455...
- SquareWheel 6y agoThat's a disappointing update. I hope they enjoy their new position at least.
- sheeshkebab 6y agoshame... Firefox dev tools are superior to Chrome’s, in my experience
- Avtomatk 6y agoHere is the note on the investment cut in MDN: https://hacks.mozilla.org/2020/08/an-update-on-mdn-web-docs/ https://hacks.mozilla.org/2020/08/an-update-on-mdn-web-docs/
- callahad 6y agoThree of the four MDN engineers are still there, but their manager and all of the tech writers were made redundant. It's a damn shame, but it's not dead yet.
- syshum 6y agoDocumentation with no writers maintain it is pointless. It will quickly become stagnant and cause more harm than good No documentation is often better than outdated documentation.
- everybodyknows 6y agoWhat I can't figure is how much browser core debugging will suffer with DevTools no longer available to inspect misbehaving in-the-wild JS/HTML/CSS -- code that behaves "right" on Chrome but not FF.
