So you want teenagers to no longer care about fitting in with their friends and having ways to talk to them?
What other human natures do you try to change?
- ehsankia 6y agoOr you could change the other side of the equation, and allow non-Apple devices to communicate with Apple devices without limiting them?
- baq 6y agoWhy should they need to pay money to fit in with a green bubble? What if the bubble was white or black?
- supernova87a 6y agoWhy should they pay money to buy fancy playing cards, dolls, cars, clothing, anything? What are you railing against? Capitalism?
- baq 6y agoExploitation of human psychology. Trading health of others for a few bucks more in your already full pocket. If that’s capitalism then yes, I’m against that. I don’t agree that is or has to be capitalism, though.
- supernova87a 6y agoI don't think I've come across any problem originating in someone's fundamental psychology and desires, where someone exploited it, and an externally imposed requirement to take away that particular exploiter simply solved the problem.
- okamiueru 6y agoI'm not sure where you live, but you've described something that I think has solved several such issues. Here are a few things that are illegal in my country to market in commercials: gambling, politics, medicaments, toys for children. Would that apply to what you are thinking?
- supernova87a 6y agoSo, people don't go online to find those things in your country? Or your country has banned internet access too?
- okamiueru 6y agoAren't you being slightly disingenuous with that argument? I was trying to contribute to the discussion by suggesting possible consideration that might help you reflect on your position, and not to be a contrearian, as your snide remark about internet access might suggest. In any case, you presented hard problems with no easy solutions. Solutions will always be stochastic, and "to some extent" with any attempt at remedying this stuff. For example children don't frequently watch commercials directed at them on TV. If you consider that to be a psychological effect with some kind of remedy through regulation, then hey, there you go. An example for you. Have a nice day.
- valuearb 6y agoLol, those “solved” problems? I live in a place where gambling is illegal. I spent years in private poker games with tens of thousands on the table.
- okamiueru 6y agoWith that attitude, I kindly suggest you read https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html
- chrisseaton 6y agoThe colour of the bubble is there so you know how the message is sent. It’s a useful feature.
- baq 6y agoI’ve got an iPhone myself. Yes, it’s green or blue. Could’ve been white or black.
- chrisseaton 6y ago> Could’ve been white or black. What difference would that have made? I don't think even those that are complaining are complaining about the colour - just that it's differentiated in any way.
- valuearb 6y agoNope, clearly you aren’t a UX savant.
- unabst 6y agoIf you create a product that adversely effects a population based on their innate behavior, you have a cruel product. If you care about that population, you'd solve issues with the product. Unless of course you have other motives.
- Bud 6y agoI note that you state neither what the supposed "issues" are, nor do you state how you think they should be "solved". I'll leave the why of that as an exercise for the reader.
- unabst 6y agoOP clearly stated the issues. And why do you need me to provide a solution? I find your response insincere and rude.
- unabst 6y agoIf you create a gun and people keep shooting themselves, you add safety features if you care about people not dying. If you build a car and people keep crashing and dying in them you add seatbelts. If you create a lock-in that causes bullying and teenagers having a hard time fitting in, then maybe there is something you can do if you care about them?
