Tell HN: Simple coffee hack to improve your productivity
I'm a fan of the power nap as a way to improve productivity. Basically, when I feel tired in the afternoon I drink a cup of coffee, set my alarm-clock for 20 minutes and take a nap. After 20 minutes I wake up refresh because of the nap and the coffee has kicked in. Notice that I set the alarm for 20 minutes. If you sleep longer you might fall into a stage of sleep that might have the opposite effect. You'll feel groggy when you wake-up. So it's important that it is about 20 minutes. OK, so that's a power nap.
Like many of you, I find it very hard to wake up in the morning. It takes hours before I feel ready for the day after I wake up. So I decided to try the power nap idea in the morning. My alarm wakes me up at 6:00 am, I immediately drink a cup of coffee, hit the snooze button for 20 minutes and go back to sleep. When the second alarm rings I am able to get up with no problem. It's changed how my day starts.
One advantage is that I love coffee. I love the taste and the ritual of making it and drinking it every morning. So what I do is make the coffee for my next morning. I make it, put it in a bottle to cool and once I'm ready to get to work I place it in the freezer. At night, right before i go to sleep, I get it out and put the frozen bottle on my night stand. When I reach for it in morning, it's ready for me. It's basically cold brew, ready to drink.
This has made a huge impact on my day. You might want to try it for a few days and let us know your results.
