Not only tech companies. The same can be said about Boeing, except there lives were lost due to that decision.
- redis_mlc 6y agoAlthough Boeing is a tech/mfg. company, the point is that current senior mgmt. thinks of (and has said) ROI first (ie. Wall Street), and their aerospace tradition last as "a quaint notion." For example, 787 design and mfg. was almost entirely outsourced to vendors, and was a financial and time disaster similar to the A380, with around $50 billion lost each. (Some Boeing engineers have told harrowing program stories, and the uncontained battery fires, FOD, wiring and wing root cracks illustrate that.) 70% of each 737 is made by Spirit AeroSystems, not Boeing: https://www.flightglobal.com/systems-and-interiors/pictures-spirit-aerosystems-ships-10000th-737-fuselage/127104.article https://www.flightglobal.com/systems-and-interiors/pictures-... The reasons for the above issues are that the original company founders, who were aerospace eng. pioneers, are all gone, and US military procurement told plane makers there were "too many competitors to manage" and to merge. Hence the rise of the MBA, and "too big to fail", even when things go $50 billion bad. Source: commercially-rated airplane pilot.
- artemonster 6y agoBoeing is a tech company. In recent years the term „tech company“ became plagued, because every startup for some redicilous webapp or service that hires only JS programmers and designers got a habit of calling themselves „tech companies“. Brrrr.
- someperson 6y agoBoeing is an aerospace engineering company, not a IT or biotech company
- the-dude 6y agoHow is Boeing not a tech company?
- taneq 6y agoPeople here seem to think “tech” means “JavaScript”.
- agumonkey 6y agoNah, jokes asides, tech nowadays means electronics and above, boeing would be labelled engineering.
- ekianjo 6y agoPretty sure there's a lot of electronics going into planes these days.
- agumonkey 6y agoOf course but you don't float on a pcb.
- LargoLasskhyfv 6y agoDepends on the shape and size of the pcb.
