Health insurance is unaffordable for any small business and prevents many from striking out on their own. It's also a hidden expense that many never realize they have. If you looked at my "out of my bank account" spending, I could spend probably 5-10 years unemployed and be fine. Add in the extra $20-30k/yr for health insurance premiums and that drops down to maybe two years if I was lucky.
