I see some replies from GH employees. Do you intend to support /v1/search or /v2/_catalog APIs? Would be nice to have access to at least public image listing like Docker Hub's.

Yup, we intend to support them, or at least the v2 catalog API. Given the current state and forward progression of most tooling, as well as the compatibility of docker v2 with OCI v1, there didn’t seem to be much value in implementing the legacy Docker APIs. The catalog functionality is just more complex given the granularity of our permission model (configurable down to the package level), so it unfortunately didn’t make the cut for the beta feature list.
