Ask HN: How do you verify “author here” comments?
- bluu00 6y agohow do you verify if you see any "author here" or "co-author here" comment on some thread? Isn't this risky as some may try to defame or misinform the community? Will HN take such responsibility? Curious.
- oedmarap 6y agoWhile anecdotal, their domain knowledge and comment history on the topic/project generally validates their input. But more importantly, in my experience their HN handle matches their GitHub or Twitter profile that's found in the project, and it's easy to interact with them and explore more of their work (I've never seen a non-matching username or throwaway account claiming authorship before).
- gus_massa 6y agoIf you see something strange, you can send an email to the mods hn@ycombinator.com . They'd probably ban the account or ask for a name change or something. > Will HN take such responsibility? I'm not sure what that means. I can claim here that I'm the King of the UN. (Thanks, I understand it's an honor to meet Me.) Nobody verifies what I write. Whiting some wide limits, the owner of the site is not responsible for what the user write.
- muzani 6y agoTime for an orange tick on accounts? But it's known that HN links YC founders to their HN handles and highlights them to other founders, so this might not be too difficult.
