I’d like to correct the record here a bit. Although Clementine, the first spacecraft to sense water ice on the moon, was indeed funded by NASA (and the Ballistic Missile Defense Organization), it was in fact designed, built, and operated by my senior colleagues at the US Naval Research Laboratory.
