While folks are rightfully bashing macOS’s hidden scroll bars, I would like to advertise an iOS feature that is actually pro-scroll bar. As of iOS 13, you can grab the scroll bar to scroll at hyper speed rather than repeatedly flicking the screen. Not sure if there’s a proper name for this feature but it’s explained here https://www.idownloadblog.com/2019/08/05/scroll-faster-iphone-ipad-tutorial/ https://www.idownloadblog.com/2019/08/05/scroll-faster-iphon...
- plorkyeran 6y agoWe used to call that "using the scroll bar".
- saagarjha 6y agoiOS devices were not nearly performant enough to allow that until recently ;)
- olyjohn 6y agoNot sure if you're being serious or not... I mean I thought these iPhones were faster than PCs. I've been able to scroll since I had my first 486.
- saagarjha 6y agoI'm being serious. The first iPhones were years behind comparable desktop hardware of the time. It's only recently that iPhones have caught up and surpassed them.
- aendruk 6y ago> you can grab the scroll bar to scroll at hyper speed I think it's called using a scrollbar. :) That's typically how they work. To spare readers the content marketing piece: tap and hold to grab it.
- snazz 6y agoThat wasn't how they worked on nearly any modern multi-touch capacitive touchscreen device.
- mcstafford 6y agoI've taken to using a fling motion on my Android devices since grabbing the position indicator in a scrollbar is comparatively inconvenient... but performance is fine.
- Infinitesimus 6y agoAndroid scrollbars have worked that way for quite a while iirc. Not sure about windows phone but I don't see why MS would change that behavior.
- reportgunner 6y agoAre you saying that you had to repeatedly flick the screen before iOS 13 ? This "feature" has been available on every Windows, Linux and Android device I have ever used.
