> outside of your country ... most people do not have a Mac,
I think you mean outside of the Bay Area. For PCs/Desktop Apple has like 12% market share in the US. 7% globally.
- Lammy 6y agoDevelopers, not general computer market share.
- doktorhladnjak 6y agoPeople in this bubble overestimate the popularity of anything Apple. I once had a discussion with a coworker at a major company known for its app, where I was complaining about an Android bug and he genuinely asked "does anybody even use Android?" And I responded, "only the majority of users in every country around the world including the US. It's even 50/50 on our app!" Afterward, I found the internal numbers for employee use of the app was 96/4 in favor of iOS, and this included employees outside of tech and outside the US! He, like so many others, was totally oblivious living in the Bay Area tech bubble.
- reidjs 6y agoUsers or customers? Is it possible more revenue was coming from iOS users?
- leptons 6y agoIf you design your site/app in the Applethink-bubble, then maybe you're missing out on quite a lot of market share if the majority of people with devices find your Applethink site/app difficult to use. Make stupid design choices, win less customers.
- mdoms 6y agoIs it a surprise that iOS users are more engaged with your product when it's tailor-made for them while Android users are getting a sub-par experience?
- adrr 6y agoIOS has much higher penetration when it comes to app installs. I’ve seen this both at a fintexh/challenger bank and multiple e-commerce companies. At the e-commerce company I am currently at, 80% of our traffic is IOS. IOS users are also higher value.
- ReverseCold 6y agoiOS has the majority market share in the US (~60% nationwide). You’re completely right that this doesn’t hold true for other countries, and that ignoring Android is not the play, though.
- ReverseCold 6y agoThis seems to be getting downvotes, so here’s my source: https://gs.statcounter.com/vendor-market-share/mobile/united-states-of-america https://gs.statcounter.com/vendor-market-share/mobile/united...
- laksdjfkasljdf 6y agoThis is a single aspect of something i call the bay-area-bubble. other aspects include to assume everyone have free wifi everywhere or unlimited latest-G data on their phone, last model Macs and phones, disposable income for 57 $9.99 monthly subscriptions, and live on food delivery. Soon to include: everyone have a room fully set up for VR, with the latest headset du jour.
