Ask HN: What to be aware of when building internal CLI?

I'm trying to codify some of our internal workflows and CLI seems like the best solution for that. But it also seems like it might end up being pretty big project and burden. Is there a problem that you haven't anticipated when making CLI tools? What was your experience with distribution, updating, maintenance, or discoverability? What can I do now so it won't bite me later?
