If the test suite took hours, couldn't part of the problem be that a lot of those tests should have been more focused unit tests? With small unit tests and mocking, you could run millions of tests in 3 hours.
- alexbanks 6y agoThere were all kinds of problems with the test suite that could've been optimized. The problem was that there were too many to manage, and that deleting them was culturally unacceptable. Lots of them made real DB requests. It's hard to get a product owner to justify having devs spend several months fixing tests that haven't been modified in 9 years.
