"A sound or a combination of sounds, or its representation in writing or printing, that symbolizes and communicates a meaning" 'Ad' sure seems like a word to me :) I actually think there are more people that would prefer contracts, terms and conditions, and legal documents be written more in plain English, not less. Things that reduce friction of being able to take in that information without reducing clarity seem to me like a net positive.
