Ask HN: What are the biggest ethical questions on your mind?
This can be regarding tech, life, work, money, climate, covid, anything. I'm just here to learn, this community has a lot of interesting folks.
- verdverm 6y agoHow do we start having respectful, constructive, and nuanced conversations about the topics you mention and the questions in other comments here? How do we deal with the legacy and social media situation?
- wryoak 6y agoIs there a digital analog to environmental (ie, water, air) pollution? Are we (professional and hobbyist web designers, backend developers, db admins, entrepreneurs, etc) "polluting" the web in some sense, and what ethical constraints and responsibilities ought we consider and tackle as enablers or producers of such pollution? How do we qualify or quantify such digital pollution? Are our sites and apps analogous to cheap, readily disposed commodity goods? Are we using too many resources to produce too little value?
- giantg2 6y agoI'd say the biggest ethical question is what determines if an action is ethical.
