- flatiron 6y agoI’m surprised they aren’t focused more on it. Not for us desktop Linux users, but for ChromeOS
- jeffbee 6y agoPerhaps you will then not be surprised that ChromeOS Linux kernel has been built with profile-guided optimizations for a long time. https://chromium.googlesource.com/chromiumos/chromite/+/master/cbuildbot/afdo.py#94 https://chromium.googlesource.com/chromiumos/chromite/+/mast...
- rurban 6y agoLinux optimizations were the very first and are much better than this trivial old-style PGO. On Linux you can use perf profiles with already optimized binaries, not bloated by pgo, and use these profiles to optimize inlining, branches and hot/cold seperation via autofdo or bolt. What is missing is using dTrace profiles for other OS's. PGO doesn't lead that far. dTrace would be the best cross platform solution. It's also secure.
