I used to work at CDS a couple year back, worked with both Tim and John (The people who responded to the GitHub issue). I'm glad to hear that his interactions with them were relatively without friction. A big part of what they're trying to do is lead by example for how modern software development can take place somewhere like the government (Taking a lot of cues from GDS and 18F).
