I would love to see a similar list for de-Apple-ing. Apple's anticompetitive and monopolistic practices with the App Store, the terrible direction MacBooks have taken, its price gouging on hardware... the list goes on. Google is saintly by comparison.
- afro88 6y agoThere's no need for a list. To de-Apple, in the context of those 3 examples, is to not buy or use Apple hardware. That's it. Apple is saintly by comparison.
- tgvaughan 6y agoApologies for running slightly off topic, but there's another way to look at this. The fact that Apple services like FaceTime and iMessage are restricted to Apple hardware means that those of us who haven't bought into this ecosystem encounter a fair amount of pressure to do so. So I think Apple's "saintly" behaviour is also self-serving.

- hu3 6y agoPlus Apple makes devices that harm the environment by being hard to repair by design. edit: It's a well known, documented fact that Apple hardware is hostile towards the environment. Your downvote wont change that.
- Razengan 6y ago> It's a well known, documented fact that Apple hardware is hostile towards the environment. Source? Apple is 100% green in some areas and they have good EPA ratings. https://www.apple.com/environment/ https://www.apple.com/environment/
- hu3 6y agoI like that your source is from Apple. Is that a joke? Took me 5 seconds on first Google page to confirm what is common sense: "Apple's horrid repair policies are forcing shops to destroy stacks of MacBook Pros" https://www.inputmag.com/culture/apples-repair-policies-are-utterly-shameful-and-shouldnt-be-allowed-e-waste-recycling-macbooks-t2 https://www.inputmag.com/culture/apples-repair-policies-are-...

- Razengan 6y ago> I like that your source is from Apple. Did you read the claims made in it and check whether they're false? https://gigaom.com/2013/11/18/apple-solar-farm-fuel-cell-farms-exclusive-photos-investigative-report/ https://gigaom.com/2013/11/18/apple-solar-farm-fuel-cell-far... http://www.macrumors.com/2015/05/12/apple-tops-2015-greenpeace-clean-energy-index/ http://www.macrumors.com/2015/05/12/apple-tops-2015-greenpea... https://www.macrumors.com/2019/07/25/apple-leads-us-solar-energy-capacity/ https://www.macrumors.com/2019/07/25/apple-leads-us-solar-en... There are primary sources in those links. > Apple's horrid repair policies are forcing shops to destroy stacks of MacBook Pros "None of that affects me negatively" — As you said about Google's privacy intrusions.
- hu3 6y agoBad analogy. Destroying MacBooks that could be repaired is detrimental to the environment. Manufacturing a new laptop uses rare metals, petrol, all sorts of chemicals, tons of water and generates pollution.
- Razengan 6y agoTake a look at the links. Apple has done a lot of good for users and has amazing products, and they have yet to annoy me as much as Microsoft did and Google do, so I will continue to be a user and a developer for their platforms.

- Razengan 6y ago> Google is saintly by comparison. jackiechan.jpg You can avoid Apple by not using anything from Apple. Done. That's how I lived for most of life when I still used Windows. Not one encounter with Apple. Now, I haven't used anything from Microsoft for 10 years until they bought GitHub. But you'll always be feeding Google just by visiting completely unrelated third-party websites. Google (like Facebook) fits most definitions of cancer, creeping into places where it doesn't belong.
