I've been running Synapse from home for more than a year, so far nothing is too painful about maintenance, except at every update its asking to review the changes of the homeserver.yaml config file from the terminal, I would have liked a more automatic approach, like when a setting is different from the new one, just leave it at it is and update the rest.
