Something I’ve been wondering: what’s the difference between this and buildroot?

  buildroot is used to cross-compile Linux systems. It's a tool. Linux from scratch is a guide that users are supposed to follow to learn more about Linux. It's mostly an educational tool.

    That doesn't sound like a very big blocker; don't you "just" need someone to "package" a compiler chain?
