I find the phrasing odd as well. Why specify near our sun as opposed to near us? If it's specifically near our sun as opposed to near us that would imply something closer to the sun than us.
- jessaustin 6y agoThey're trying not to sound provincial, to the many scientists based in other solar systems who will read this paper in centuries to come.
- adrianmonk 6y agoMaybe, but I'm not sure how "our sun" is less provincial than "us".
- repsilat 6y agoThey should have said "near Mars", it would have been more exciting.
