And FF (as Chromium always has) now consumes RAM until my system crashes...
- sfink 6y agoWe* are still generally better at that, but there are many different situations so different users have very different experiences. Please file a bug, preferably with an about:memory report while the browser is using an uncomfortable amount of memory. (You can actually get more info using the Memory tool in devtools, but it's trickier to use and doesn't work after the memory usage has gone too far.) A profile https://profiler.firefox.com/ https://profiler.firefox.com/ could also be useful -- it'll record what addons you have, for example, and memory use over time -- but we can figure that out in the bug. * (I work on Firefox)
- gvjddbnvdrbv 6y agoIt crashes my whole linux system. Is about:memory preserved on restart? Is it safe to send my employer's data? I've largely switched to just running FF inside a VM. It seems to use all the available memory in a given system so I just give it less memory and it performs about the same...
- garaetjjte 6y ago>It crashes my whole linux system. Enable SysRq magic key and use it to invoke OOM killer manually when it freezes. Linux has this weird peculiarity of not invoking OOM killer automatically before system exhausts memory. (and instead just runs extremely slowly, shrinking buffers to zero and loading executable pages from disk)
