I've seen people hired into startups that just got their A-round and they made sub-FAANG market rate plus whatever crazy stock incentive they agreed to. And the exit strategy was usually acquisition by FAANG anyway. So I would add as a valid reason: - Startup will pay you as much as anyone else, and won't be boring. Caveat: may only apply to early hires!
