Show HN: Made in India CSS
- cooper12 6y agoNot sure why you chose to have the mouse pointer change on hover for all the cards via CSS, as nothing happens when you click on them.
- orangepanda 6y agoIf you reverse the order, can re-use it as "Made in Ireland"
- bobosha 6y agoBoth the Irish and Indian independence movements took inspiration from each other.
- aitchnyu 6y ago> Presented as a gift in 1848 to Thomas Francis Meagher from a small group of French women sympathetic to the Irish cause,[3] it was intended to symbolise the inclusion and hoped-for union between Roman Catholics (symbolised by the green colour) and Protestants (symbolised by the orange colour). The significance of the colours outlined by Meagher was, "The white in the centre signifies a lasting truce between Orange and Green and I trust that beneath its folds the hands of Irish Protestants and Irish Catholics may be clasped in generous and heroic brotherhood". And > Gandhi first proposed a flag to the Indian National Congress in 1921. The flag was designed by Pingali Venkayya. In the centre was a traditional spinning wheel, symbolising Gandhi's goal of making Indians self-reliant by fabricating their own clothing, between a red stripe for Hindus and a green stripe for Muslims. The design was then modified to replace red with saffron and to include a white stripe in the centre for other religious communities, and provide a background for the spinning wheel. Subsequently, to avoid sectarian associations with the colour scheme, the three bands were assigned new meanings: courage and sacrifice, peace and truth, and faith and chivalry respectively.
- mahastore 6y agoWe don't care what the Irish do. Is that part of England? - Sorry but couldn't help but take a mini revenge on HN. One of you Irish pals got pretty racist in a bar and told me "We dont really care about India". Yeah FU Irish mofo.
- lbj 6y agoLooks great, we should make a patriotic repo with more countries. And maybe I'll do an Analytics made in India blogpost. I had a client once who had outsourced his e-commerce dev to India. We sent him the Analytics code to include on his e-commerce site and he sent it to his team in India. The next morning there was no tracking, but every single product description was now replaced by the tracking script.
- llampx 6y agoYep, nobody outside India has ever made an error.
- blocked_again 6y agoNot sure what point you are trying to make? Approx 1/6 people of this planet live in India. You can find all kind of stories here. From underpaid outsourcing teams doing a bad job updating the tracking details in an ecommerce site to Walmart investing majority stake in Indian ecommerce unicorn for 16+ Billion dollars. It's a spectrum of stories.
- iliekcomputers 6y agoTurns out trying to pay people 1-2 usd per hour for creative work leads to said people not caring about the quality of the work.
- realusername 6y agoThat should be kind of obvious but the good developers in India don't work for the cheap outsourcing companies, they have way better options.
- onion2k 6y agoAnd maybe I'll do an Analytics made in India blogpost. I hope the basis of the post is how you didn't communicate how the code was supposed to be integrated well enough, and how you've learned to give clear instructions without assuming knowledge on the part of other people now.
- rudiv 6y agoI've been reloading https://www.sabrecms.com/en/blog https://www.sabrecms.com/en/blog since I read your comment. When's this blog post coming? Have to say, I assumed you were an American, so it was quite disappointing to find you're a Dane. Might have to dob you in to Sandi Toksvig. Edit: One of your sites (login.sabrecms.com) has expired SSL certificates. Might want to re-run Lets Encrypt. Can I suggest a cronjob? Mind you, they do send you an email whenever one of your certificates is about to expire.
- CameronNemo 6y agoQuite cool. Although I was a little disappointed there was no mandala :p
- sunilkumarc 6y agoThis is awesome dude! Love it.
- rudiv 6y agoThe blue is weird to me, because the blue of the chakra is almost never kept when using the colors of the flag as a motif.
- muxator 6y agoIndia-spiral is not a spiral!
- hombre_fatal 6y agoCircles look great on my Macbook monitor (being retina, of course) but very aliased/jagged on my crappy external monitor. Maybe there's a small tweak that will do some antialiasing.
- skim_milk 6y agoBy adding a single pixel of gradient between color transitions effectively adds antialiasing: repeating-radial-gradient( circle, white 0px 1px, var(--orange) 2px 10px, var(--white) 11px 13px, var(--blue) 14px 16px, var(--white) 17px 20px, var(--green) 21px 30px, var(--white) 31px 40px ) https://stackoverflow.com/questions/33091401/background-image-linear-gradient-jagged-edged-result-needs-to-be-smooth-edged https://stackoverflow.com/questions/33091401/background-imag...
- gitgud 6y ago<nitpick> Was this inspired by [1] USA.css? if so why not mention it in the Github readme? </nitpick> [1] https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=23733926 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=23733926
- robofanatic 6y agoNice work, however the colors are off India saffron #FF9933, white #FFFFFF, India green #138808, navy blue #000080 source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_India https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_India
- john4532452 6y agoWhy do this at all ? This just promotes Nationalism and unwanted hatred.
- snoozypants 6y agoFor some reason I just love how specific this is.
