I always thought they should have done a hstore2 which was hierarchical and supported all of PostgreSQL datatypes which then could have supported json on top of that. Json is so limiting without dates and binary types among others, I'm glad jsonb is there but it could have been so much more. One day we will all agree on hierarchical data model that supports a good set of datatypes, one can hope at least.
