Ask HN: Hiring managers and recruiters – what software are you using?

From what I've been told, a lot of people doing hiring are still using plain old email + spreadsheets for a lot of recruiting activities. Is that accurate? I know of the popular candidate testing services for devs (coderbyte, hackerrank, qualified, etc.) - is there a reason you'd just use a spreadsheet + email instead of those services? I ask because I'm contemplating joining a project in this area and I want to get a better idea of what insiders think about the current state of the SaaS offerings for tech hiring.
