It's just back-propogation of conclusions. So people are going to be raising eyebrows understandably if you bring this up randomly without knowing your facts. You can talk about how and historically why some animals were or are eaten in some places in some countries - sure. But that kind of nuanced and historic analysis isn't usually why they're talking about this in the first place.
