Is it hype, or controversy then? :P Latest development in Nim is reference counting is planned to replace the GC https://forum.nim-lang.org/t/6549 https://forum.nim-lang.org/t/6549. However this is done in a non-breaking way and their isn't much criticism, except the development effort and the countless bugs that were introduced. Hopefully this will lead to better multi threading which is a shortcoming of the language, thus opening new fields.
