I went all the way through the Wikipedia article on cryptographic hash functions looking for something similar to what I'd just described, but there was no link to THIS: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hash_chain http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hash_chain The resemblence is actually spooky.
