Quantum mechanics is unitary time evolution? Apart from measurement its all linear, look at the Schroedinger equation... there's no chaotic dynamics. A trivial result? Pity I cant read the rest of the article behind a paywall.
- willis936 6y agoFrom a physics perspective it is trivial. I think this is more of a lesson in chaos than it is in quantum mechanics. It can also help in perspective when trying to grasp why quantum mechanics don't scale up to macro. Just yesterday I used this thought process as an analogy to the engineering adage: "You can do it fast, cheap, or good. Pick two." I argued that this is the most true for personal projects, but as you have larger numbers of people involved other effects become dominant.
- jostylr 6y agoHere's a non-paywalled article: https://ladailypost.com/lanl-simulating-quantum-time-travel-disproves-butterfly-effect-in-quantum-realm/ https://ladailypost.com/lanl-simulating-quantum-time-travel-... Here is the preprint: https://arxiv.org/abs/2003.07267 https://arxiv.org/abs/2003.07267 They are using the linearity to say that the effect is not magnified as it would be classically, but it is in the context of repairing damage done by a measurement.
- _Microft 6y agoNot that I could ever endorse such behaviour but have you tried calling on Alexandra, patron saint of the paywalled scientist?
- tzs 6y agoWould that work? This is an article for the general public in a weekly news and opinion magazine. Isn’t that out of scope for the site you are hinting about?
- _Microft 6y agoOops, I messed up. It would not help of course. My bad.
- xwdv 6y agoReagan would be a cool name for an extension or app used for taking down paywalls.
