The need for bureaucracy is only there because of people like you. People who, when an inequality is pointed out, simply knee-jerk their way into "I worked hard to be born a white man, I've earned this," instead of reflecting on what they have and where it came from.
- anonunivgrad 6y ago“... [your opinion doesn’t matter because you’re] a white man” Give me a break. You don’t know who I am or where I come from or what my family is. And what a ridiculous, low, way to argue.
- fdupress 6y agoYour strawman was ridiculous and low. Nothing in the article—which simply presents data—was arguing for > a ton of bureaucracy, a right to sue VCs when you think there was a gendered element to the decision, HR drones policing every comment by VCs, and affirmative action investments. That will fix everything right up! Oh yeah, and diversity training, including “white fragility” or “toxic masculinity” lectures, which are totally not racist or sexist. It just disagreed with me that having somebody point out an inequality just triggered you so badly that you just had to go and write a sarcastic comment that didn't do shit to actually tackle the problem at hand. My point—which could admittedly have been aimed further away from you personally—is that if we all take a tiny bit of responsibility, we don't need to have bureaucracy that kills innovation and difference. And right there and then, your comment was not taking on any responsibility (and indeed, it's possible you have none), but was in fact saying "those problems matter less than others". We can have a human civilization that's both dynamic and fair.

It's not what HN is for, and it destroys the curiosity that it is for, so we have to moderate against this. https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html
