I love Darktable, and it definitely is a replacement for Lightroom and way way more, but the UX is definitely not designed for beginners - nor is the tooling. I had a lightroom trial a month ago and ended up editing a huge amount of photos quickly and to my satisfaction. Darktable just slows me down and I never bother.
