Remember the sanctioned big Chinese facial recognition companies? They do not really need 5nm chip for their product, I think 14nm can also work (albeit performance penalty). Also, PLA, if they ever need to manufacture AI chips for whatever reason, they need to manufacture them in mainland for supply chain security.
