Why do social media sites treat "links to X" as directly posting X on their site? Surely the former is not against their terms of service? (Here am talking about legal adult content obviously)...
These overarching powers to censor anything for any reason is disturbing to say the least.
- fsflover 6y agoThat's why we have Mastodon now, where everyone can choose what to censor themselves.
- hkt 6y agoWhich inevitably means an environment normal people hate - because they end up with some of the quirkier denizens of the internet on their global timelines if they use a public instance.
- fsflover 6y agoNot at all. "Normal" people simply choose "normal" instances.
- sfkdjf9j3j 6y agoWhich ones are you talking about?
- fsflover 6y agoDepends on what is normal for you. See e.g. https://mastodon.social/public https://mastodon.social/public or https://floss.social/public https://floss.social/public.
- t0astbread 6y agoI suppose if most of the links posted for a site are spam the social media giants would rather just ban the site entirely than do "micro-management" for the site.
