I do this all the time every day. It’s my primary mode of work, going from full-screen maximized apps to windowed “desktop” apps, and back, with cmd-tab. I don’t remember ever not being able to do this, but I’ve only started using full screen often within the last few versions. Maybe I misunderstand you.
