imagine being stuffed in those seats for 19 hours.
- Tepix 6y agoIn microgravity, mostly
- RedShift1 6y agoWhat if you have to pee or a number two?
- smiley1437 6y agoIt's not the most glamorous fact, but astronauts have diapers
- mlindner 6y agoDragon has a toilet in it.
- 51Cards 6y agoThey weren't in those seats for 19 hours. Shortly after undocking they were able to take off their suits for the night. Didn't have to put them on again until the re-entry prep started. Most of that 19 hours they were free to move around the cabin.
- Symmetry 6y agoFar better than a Soyuz.
- ACS_Solver 6y agoThey weren't in their seats the whole time, but even if they were, that'd be a walk in the park compared to some other missions. Gemini 7 might just be the least pleasant space mission. Two astronauts spent 14 days in their cramped capsule. One of them had to wait six days before being allowed to take the spacesuit off, but the capsule was uncomfortably hot anyway. There was no toilet, and the urine collector was leaky. Reading about that mission has been eye-opening to how unglamorous spaceflight gets, and left me even more amazed at how well-trained and professional the astronauts are, being able to complete such an unpleasant mission without incident.
- redis_mlc 6y ago19 hours isn't a huge concern, but the astronauts on one mission did go on strike when mission control tried to schedule 24 hours of activities per day (ie. no sleep.)
