Congrats, I'm looking forward to the next steps. And I am so sorry american citizenship is required to apply for SpaceX jobs :-(
- new_realist 6y agoIf it were considered mature it wouldn’t be on the front page of HN.
- isatty 6y agoPlenty of mature technology/companies are on the front page of HN daily.
- kazagistar 6y ago"First privately owned round trip to the ISS". Its obviously still a first, but its not a technical first, but an economic first. Hacker news focused on both technical and economic things, so this still is interesting for it, but that doesn't mean it is a new tech.
- elliekelly 6y agoI’m pretty sure there was a week in March/April where COBOL made the front page like every day...
- bemmu 6y agoWhen they docked, the first words from the ISS crew were about where they could put their trash. Making it look mundane seems like a conscious choice.
- wenc 6y ago> american citizenship is required to apply for SpaceX jobs Interestingly ITAR rules themselves only specify "US persons" (which includes LPRs, certain refugees/asylees), not necessarily exclusively citizens. It seems that restricting hiring to citizens in order to comply with ITAR may actually contradict the law: https://www.wiggin.com/publication/hiring-u-s-citizens-only-for-itar-compliance-can-violate-the-immigration-and-nationality-act/ https://www.wiggin.com/publication/hiring-u-s-citizens-only-... https://www.justice.gov/crt/page/file/1080256/download https://www.justice.gov/crt/page/file/1080256/download It's possible that certain SpaceX positions have additional clearance requirements that may require citizenship. However a random search on SpaceX's hiring site only specifies ITAR requirements, and it describes the "US persons" category correctly. https://boards.greenhouse.io/spacex/jobs/4750171002?gh_jid=4750171002 https://boards.greenhouse.io/spacex/jobs/4750171002?gh_jid=4...
- colordrops 6y agoThey also do hire non US persons that don't get access to certain materials but it's rare.
- ipnon 6y agoI can't wait for an orbital office park or lunar base with permissive visa schemes.
