I don't have a horse in this race, but surely it could only be bad for those regions, right? There's a whole world of applications involving NLP which non-English speakers don't have access to.

On the other hand, a huge amount of those applications target consumers to get them to misspend more money, so not having them might be a benefit? Surveillance capitalism relies on getting ever more info about you, and exploiting it or selling it on to all that want to exploit it. NLP is one vector to extract that info from raw data.
