Isn't Python typically considered a scripting language, and usually ranked as at least top 3 in popularity?

  Yes, but the way i see it, Raku (Perl6) was a complete rewrite of Perl .. was a radical change (rational numbers, grammar, multimethods, ...) Python 3, is in my opinion more of an incremental and conservative change
