Anthony Fauci Explains Why the US Still Hasn’t Beaten Covid
- aaron695 6y agoFauci is 79 years old. We need to stop the delusion someone who's 79 should be running a large critically important part of society. We are not talking about an employee contributing as many 79 year olds do. We are not talking about a founder rightfully continuing to run their company. We seriously believe at 79 people have the same energy levels as 65? Has SJW culture really infected our science that much we no longer believe in ageing?
- xster 6y agoIs there a specific statement or position from him that you think is incorrect and colored by his falling stamina due to age? > should be running a large critically important part of society. Or maybe this ties into our perception of what he's specifically running as the director of NIAID, the research and advisory arm of the government rather than CDC, the public health and policy arm, that has been largely muzzled during this pandemic.
- aaron695 6y ago> When is your best guess about when the vaccine will be available to us? >Probably by the end of this year, the beginning of 2021. This is a lie. The question is why is he lying? I understand he will lie about political things. But this is science. I think he actually believes it. Analysis of all sources shows its not possible. I think it's easier for him to just follow this narrative, just like he did with masks. If it's part of being a career politician then it's back to age, I want to listen to middle aged scientists not corrupted by politics.
- rumanator 6y ago> This is a lie. The question is why is he lying? What? So the reporter asked for a guess, Dr Fauci threw a number at the air, and you react to a guess by accusing it of being a lie? And afterwards you failed to even point out any disagreement with the guess. You just threw an ad hominem and.... That's it.
- aaron695 6y ago> So the reporter asked for a guess, Dr Fauci threw a number at the air Entire countries economies and planning involving whole populations like lockdowns and hospital equipment needed rely on knowing when a vaccine will be ready The fact Fauci shouldn't know when a vaccine would be available and would have to guess on the fly means I have not understood his position correctly. I take back what I said. To a non guessed timeline, getting a vaccine quickly normally takes 10 years, that's short. So a best super case timeline for C19 would be critical staff June 2021, the general population at best would be mid 2022, but very very easily there could be never a vaccine even for critical staff. I don't know who you want linked in these partisan times but John Hopkins put out a press release saying limited release might start end of 2021 and that's going to be really hard to deliver - https://wjla.com/news/health/researchers-warn-coronavirus-vaccine-delivery-distribution-problems-are-looming https://wjla.com/news/health/researchers-warn-coronavirus-va... (Random fact, the vaccine I just started as a guinea pig for is under a 400 day trail, even in the very unlikely fact it works and things are done in parallel, that's 400 days)
- lern_too_spel 6y agoJohns Hopkins isn't developing a vaccine. Fauci's team is (in collaboration with Moderna). The latter's report on when a vaccine will be available is straight from the horse's mouth. Note that he didn't say wide availability. He has consistently stated that will come later. https://www.forbes.com/sites/karenrobinsonjacobs/2020/07/24/no-coronavirus-vaccine-likely-by-years-end-fauci-says/#42e79ebf5b7e https://www.forbes.com/sites/karenrobinsonjacobs/2020/07/24/...
- lefrenchy 6y agoSo like the 74 year old overweight President of the United States?
- AnimalMuppet 6y agoOr like the 77-year=old candidate for President? Or the 80-year-old Speaker of the House?
- juniper_strong 6y agoOr the 87 year old Supreme Court justice who is returning home to the hospital after a brief absence.
- spaceisballer 6y agoI used to carry the same views regarding older people in leadership positions. However I don’t think age is really the problem it’s willingness to adapt. And I believe you are more likely to fear change if you are older, it’s not universal but it appears to be more likely. The leader of my organization is in his seventies and has deep knowledge and understanding of his field but he is humble enough to yield when he is not the expert and he leans on the people that are. But I guess what I’m really talking about is leadership, and just because you are older doesn’t mean you are a good leader.
- aaron695 6y agoI have followed and really believed in people in their mid 70's before in work environments and wouldn't hesitate to do it again. You learn a lot.
