A CEO who is really a CFO is probably not what Intel needs right now. It's clear that their engineering culture is compromised, and i would hope that Intel would go back to their roots.
- UncleOxidant 6y agoYep, it was clear when they chose Swan to be the CEO that they were prioritizing cost-cutting over innovation.
- dehrmann 6y agoIt apparently cost them the Apple deal. At the end of the day, even a CFO-CEO isn't happy about that.
- andrewstuart 6y agoCFO-CEO's don't know what to do about it though.
- bcrosby95 6y agoCut more costs.
- mtgx 6y agoDo they know where from exactly? Something that costs a lot and isn't looking very profitable right now could be critical for Intel in a few years.
- lumberingjack 6y agoThey had that problem for a long time too. See the failed mobile phone chip that wing in that one Asus phone. Everyone looked at the specs two years before release said (that will suck all the battery and be slow) when it came out it sucked all the battery and was slow leading Intel to fire 12k people canceling the program
- Solstinox 6y agoCompanies that get to be as big as Intel are destined for this kind of failure.
- BeetleB 6y agoThe previous poor performing CEO was a home grown engineer.
- Polylactic_acid 6y agoTake a look at the past achievements and qualifications of AMDs CEO Lisa Su. Its no wonder AMD is doing so well right now.
- travbrack 6y agoNot really a fair comparison since they outsource fab
- cma 6y agoOn their spin out of global foundries they had some obligations to keep buying from them, and they used it to do the IO die in their chiplet design.
- eklavya 6y agoIs this hindsight attribution of success to an otherwise not related parameter? How much do CEOs make or break a company?
- The_rationalist 6y agoThe CEO before Lisa Su was the precursor that initiated most of the future growth, e.g Zen
- mattferderer 6y agoPrior leaders are often underrated. I don't know the specifics of this case but I know a lot of coaches refuse to be the person in charge of "rebuilding" because they know they will get 80% there just in time to get fired & watch someone else get all the credit.
- The_rationalist 6y agoIt might apply to some extent to some countries Presidents too
- romanovcode 6y ago> A CEO who is really a CFO is probably not what Intel needs right now. Worked really well for Microsoft. /s
