Why does Renduchintala's head roll and not Swan's?
- metalliqaz 6y agoWe'll never know, but I imagine strategic positioning in the blame game is very important at the upper rungs of a company like Intel.
- exmadscientist 6y agoReliable sources from within Intel have long indicated that you don't have to imagine :) The biggest question I have about this news is how much of it is really Murthy's fault, and how much of it is an excuse for Swan to get rid of his biggest rival at the company? It could easily go either way. The previous succession battle can't have left a strong executive team behind... but what else is new for Intel?
- emmelaich 6y agoComplete speculation but perhaps Renduchintala wasn't providing the full accurate info to Swan.
- KSS42 6y agoSwan has only been CEO for 18 months. Renduchintala has been charge of technology group including fabs for 5 years.
- mtgx 6y agoI give Swan another 18 months before he's out.
- molszanski 6y agoIf you don’t know the motives, judge by the results. It seems that Intel is directed by mba and accounting people.
- dm319 6y ago| If you don’t know the motives, judge by the results. I like this phrase - can you expand on what it means?
- molszanski 6y agoWhat I meant was that you can guess the motivation by working backwards from the results. If I come home at 3 AM it is not accident. I wanted to party hard and I did exactly that. This is a useful simplification, like "Follow the money" or Occams Razor. Somebody has probably coined up the principle and I picked it up from South Park or something :) It might be around here somewhere: https://fs.blog/mental-models/ https://fs.blog/mental-models/ Something similar has been used in a Game of Thrones. > Petyr 'Littlefinger' Baelish: Sometimes when I try to understand a person's motives, I play a little game. I assume the worst. Sometimes when I try to understand a person's motives, I play a little game. I assume the worst. ...
- dm319 6y agoThanks - I like it.

- UncleOxidant 6y agoSwan should be moved back to the CFO position because that's really what he is.
- nodesocket 6y agoIt's time for Swan to go back to bean counting and MBA activities and bring in a technical CEO who can push innovation like Lisa Su is doing at AMD. With that said, I am very much considering taking a stock position in Intel. It's very cheap, very solid divvy (2.6%), and eventually will come back.
- person_of_color 6y agoWhat possible evidence do you have for it coming back? It could be start of a Hertz-like death spiral for all you know.
- nodesocket 6y agoThe fact that you compare Intel to Hertz is comical. Chips aren't going anywhere, there is only going to be more and more computers, servers, and silicon demand. Intel, despite AMD's gigantic moves is still very entrenched with enterprise (servers). I don't see AMD being the only single player, I see a resurgence of Intel mid-to-long term and both will split the pizza pie.
- TomVDB 6y ago$25B in cash goes a long way in bridging the gap between now and being back.
- molszanski 6y agoNormally I would do the same. But my spidey sense tells me that we might be looking at a slow sunset of x86.
- AmVess 6y agoMurthy drove off a lot of talent in his bid to become CEO.
